Chaal is a board-game app for Android (Chess and Sheep vs Tigers) made by Satyapir (সত্যপীর). It is operated by 1001630943 Ontario Inc., Ontario, Canada ("we"). This page says what the app collects, why, and how you can remove it. Gutikhela's website has its own privacy page.
The short version
- There are no accounts and no sign-in. The app never asks for your name, email or phone number.
- The app does not ask for your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
- There is nothing to buy. Chaal's coins (Mohur) are earned by playing and watching ads you choose to watch.
- Your games, coins and settings are kept on your phone, not on our servers. We do not run servers that receive them.
- The app uses Google services for ads and for counting how the app is used. They are described below.
- Chaal also contains Meta's App Events kit, but it is not connected to Meta yet, so it is never switched on and sends nothing to Meta. Its switch appears in Settings › Privacy once it is connected.
Your choices and deleting your data
Erase all data (Settings › Privacy) removes your puzzle record and streak, your saved game, your Mohur wallet and the items in it, your language and theme choices, your tutorial and Easy Mode progress, the first-open check and the counters behind the usage milestones (first open date, games finished, tutorials done), a game waiting to open from a link, the random number the "more games" display is chosen from, any result-card picture prepared for sharing, and any reminder already booked. It also resets the app's analytics instance, so counts sent after erasing are not linked to counts sent before. Two small ad records stay, so that erasing cannot be used to get around the ad limits: today's count of rewarded ads with the time of the last one and the number of games since the last full-screen ad (the daily count starts again each day), and the last ads on-or-off setting the app received.
Uninstalling the app, or Android's Settings > Apps > Chaal > Storage > Clear storage, removes everything it keeps on your phone.
Your phone's advertising ID is controlled by Android, not by us: you can reset or delete it in your phone's settings (on most phones, Settings > Privacy > Ads, or Settings > Google > Ads).
We do not know who you are, so there is nothing we hold under your name to send you or delete. If you have a question about your data, or a request about it, use the contact form (যোগাযোগের ফর্ম) and choose "Privacy or data request".
What is kept on your phone
The app saves, in its own private storage on the phone:
- the game in progress, so you can come back to it;
- your Mohur coins, the items you have unlocked, and your records and daily-puzzle streak;
- your settings (language, light or dark);
- small counters the app uses for itself: the date of the first open, how many games you have finished, which tutorials you have done, and how many ads you have seen today.
None of this is sent to us. The app turns off Android's app-data backup, so this data is not copied into your phone's cloud backup.
What is sent, and why
Usage counts (Google Analytics for Firebase)
To learn which games are played and where players get stuck, the app sends events to Google Analytics for Firebase: a game started, finished or abandoned (with the game, the mode, the level, the number of players and computer players, the result and the score); a tutorial started or finished; the language or theme changed; a menu tab opened; the share or rate button tapped; an ad shown, rewarded, unavailable or failed; coins earned or spent; the shop opened, an item bought or used; and the first open and the return on the next day.
No event carries your name, an email, the seat names you type, or anything you write. Like any app that uses it, Firebase also records on its own an identifier for this installation of the app, the phone model, the Android and app versions, the language, an approximate country worked out from the internet address, and, where Android allows it, the advertising ID.
Ads switch (Firebase Remote Config)
When the app starts it asks Firebase Remote Config for one setting, whether ads are on, so that we can switch ads off without an update. Firebase uses an identifier for this installation to answer.
Ads (Google AdMob)
The app is free and paid for by ads: short video ads you choose to watch for a reward, and a full-screen ad now and then between games. There are no banner ads. The ads come from Google AdMob, which uses the advertising ID, the internet address and information about the phone to choose ads and count them. Google's ad software also uses the internet address to estimate your general location (such as the country or region), and it collects basic performance information about the app, such as how long it takes to open, whether it stops responding and how much battery it uses, to keep ads working, to count them and to prevent fraud. It does not send crash reports for us, and we receive none of this information about you.
Where the law requires it (for example in the European Economic Area and the UK), Google's consent form is shown before any ad, and no ads are shown until you have answered it. If the app cannot tell whether the form is needed, it asks only for ads that are not personalised.
Where you came from (Google Play install referrer)
On the first open only, the app reads the short tag Google Play passes on with the install: which website or campaign sent you, which of our ads it was, and which game you picked. The app uses it to open that game first, and sends the tag's source, medium, campaign and ad names and the game (nothing else from it) as one usage-count event. Anything it does not recognise is ignored. If you open Chaal from a link to one of its games, the app opens that game and counts it as one usage event with the game's name.
Measuring our own advertising (Meta App Events)
Chaal includes Meta's App Events kit, but it is not connected to Meta yet: we have not set up a Meta app for it. The kit is never switched on and nothing is sent to Meta. There is no Meta switch in the app for the same reason; it appears in Settings › Privacy once the kit is connected. Before we connect it, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
Reminders (notifications)
Chaal can show reminders, and they are local: your phone's own clock schedules them on your phone, and nothing about them is sent to a server. Right after your first win against the computer, the app asks once for Android's notification permission (the system prompt on Android 13 and newer; the permission is POST_NOTIFICATIONS). If you say no, no reminder is ever shown. If you say yes, the app books at most one reminder a day, never later than 21:30 your time, and a new one replaces the one waiting. There are three kinds: that today's puzzle is ready (the next day, around the hour you last played, or 18:00 if the app has not seen you play); that your playing streak of two days or more ends tonight (at 20:00, only if you have not played yet that day and no streak shield covers it); and, at most once a week, that you are within a short way of the next cloth you can buy with coins. Chaal has no switch for reminders inside the app. To stop them, open Android's Settings > Apps > Chaal > Notifications and turn them off, or remove the permission there.
What the app does not do
No in-app purchases: there is no Google Play billing in the app. No chat, no online play and no friends list: games are against the computer or hand to hand on one phone.
Data we cannot delete on request
The usage counts in Google Analytics are linked to a random identifier for this installation of the app, never to your name, email or phone number. We cannot tell which identifier is yours, so we cannot delete them one person at a time; they are deleted automatically (see Retention). What Google receives for ads is held by Google under its own policy.
Retention
- On your phone: until you erase it, clear the app's storage or uninstall the app.
- Google Analytics: detailed event data is deleted automatically after 14 months. The totals in reports (how many people played, how many games were finished) are kept.
- Google AdMob: as set out in Google's own policies.
The services the app uses
- Google (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Remote Config, AdMob and its consent form): Google Privacy Policy, and how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Meta (App Events): Meta Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your data, and the app sends nothing to anyone else.
Children
Chaal is made for a general audience of teenagers and adults, including families playing together on one phone. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child's information has reached us, tell us through the contact form and we will help.
Changes
If the app starts collecting something new, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
